SNCF lists luggage lockers in Hall 3 on level -1, close to the Rue de Bercy access. Locker sizes and charges vary, so check the current SNCF station information before travelling.

The station warns that lockers can sometimes be full. It is also carrying out changes to the locker area in September 2026, so check the current station page before relying on a particular payment setup.

For a Short Wait, Do Not Leave the Station

  • Keep your luggage with you if you have less than about an hour.
  • Use a café or food outlet when you want a proper seat.
  • Check your departure board before settling down.
  • Allow extra time if you need to move between halls with large suitcases.

With More Time, Walk Toward the Viaduc des Arts

If you have stored your bag and want fresh air, the start of the Coulée Verte René-Dumont is near Bastille, behind the Opéra Bastille. The elevated planted walk follows the old railway above Avenue Daumesnil and the Viaduc des Arts. It is better for a longer gap than a quick 30-minute wait.

Do Not Go Too Far Just to Fill Time

Gare de Lyon has strong transport links, but a two-hour gap can disappear quickly once you include walking, finding a place and returning for a train. If you are waiting for hotel check-in rather than another train, it makes more sense to head toward your hotel after storing the bag if the hotel is ready to hold luggage.

  • Less than 1 hour: remain in Gare de Lyon.
  • 1–2 hours: café near the station or a short local walk.
  • 2–4 hours: store luggage and walk toward Bastille or the Coulée Verte.
